On Second Thoughts

A couple of weeks ago I watched Batfleck vs Superville Dawn of Justice and not unlike many people I saw a film that was deeply flawed and which came across as a not particularly terrific way for Warner Bros and DC to begin their DCEU.

I wrote about it in length (you can read my post on this very site) and in conclusion I gave the movie an overall score of 6 out of 10. I then thought about what I had seen and after taking some time to give it more consideration I realised that it was not even worthy of that score and so I changed my opinion and rated it a 3 out of 10.

Well I have just finished watching the film for a second time and I think I may well have been wrong about it being deserving of a 3 as frankly right now I am so mad at what Synder gave us that I can only score it a 1. Yes that may be a little overzealous of me but goddamn this film is all kinds of awful.

I'm fairly sure that anyone reading this will have seen the movie by now so I dont have to worry about posting spoilers and some of these points I have covered in my original review so rather than writing in length once more I will simply list some of my more pressing issues as nitpicky as some of them may be -

Batmans origin story again, this time in dream sequence (dreams, dreams, bloody dreams)

What the hell were Bruces people still doing inside their office building when towers were coming down all around them?

Lex Luthor was just bad, bad, bad. Jesse Eisenberg is not a great actor in the first place but his ludicrous portrayal of the number one Superman bad guy was nothing short of depressing

Superman is a mardy bitch

Does Clark Kent ever do any work?

So Supermans best friend (which for the record is Jimmy Olsen) gets a cameo but is murdered within 2 minutes of making an appearence

Superman can hear Lois Lanes voice from the other side of the globe (more on this momentarily)

Alfred is great but hardly used

Darkseid tease in another sodding dream sequence (or was it a dream)

Synder mixes his comic book references by switching from The Dark Knight to Returns to Injustice Gods Among Us with a crowbarred in Flash appearence

Batman kills (yes this is a dream, maybe, but its not restricted to this moment)

Both heroes are manipulated by Lex for no real apparent reason

Hey look its Wonder Woman, yes shes fine in this film but the music that plays everytime she does something is bloody infuriating

So Lex has compiled a dossier on other metahumans and conveniently given them their own logos that just happen to be the same ones that we know and love

Perry White is in this film why?

A jar of piss

Lex kills his assistant why?

Hey its the batmobile and murderous Batman is driving

Superman doesnt give a damn about stopping the bad guys with the guns and the dodgy cargo, hes too busy threatening Batman

Batman steals Kryptonite off sceen

So Superman could see his dead Kryptonian dad in Man of Steel and his dead human dad in this film

Lex kidnaps Martha and Superman doesnt intervene as he apparently couldnt hear her due to all the noise in town (this is from the mouth of Synder), yet he saved Lois when she was in another country

Batman finally fights Superman and conveniently the battle ends in the exact place that he had left his Kryptonite spear

The fight ends with the discovery that they both have mothers called Martha......god I wish that was a joke

Hey look its Doomsday which is a beastie created by mixing Zods body with Lexs blood, what a complete heap of s***

Speaking of Doomsday he can absorb energy to get stronger.......what??

Now of course anyone who has ever picked up a comic book will know that Doomsday is the harbringer of the Death of Superman as Synder chucks another comic book arc into the mix.

Yes thats right, the death of Superman, that monumental event that probably deserves its only movie but here gets chucked into the mix and lasts all of about ten minutes before he returns to live (yes thats whats happening at the end of this films folks)

So Dawn of Justice which was advertised as Batman vs Superman delivered that (for all of 7 minutes) as well as throwing as much crap at the wall in hoping that some of it would stick. Not unlike The Amazing Spiderman this film is nothing more than a giant advertisement for what is to come on the future and this is why it has tanked so hard at the boxoffice.

Now of course I say tanked with a little tounge in cheek as it has taken almost $850 million dollars but when you consider that Zootopia has taken over $50 million more and that following the success of previous movie releases such as Star Wars, Avengers, Jurassic World and Fast and Furious which all took well over $1 billion, you have to consider Dawn of Justice somewhat of a failiure

In closing I think its safe to say that I really hate this film though I understand that many others will have loved it and thats what makes movies great in that we all take something different from what we see.
